"Tiva"
Garbonita Indian Rain Dance
Tiva is a new addition to Keystone Gun Dogs. We were very fotunate to acquire Tiva from Garbonita German Shorthaired Pointers in Arizona. Tiva's breeders, Anita & Gary Weiss, named her Indian Rain Dance since she has Indian Brook's line in her pedigree. With some internet research on American Indian names we found that the word Tiva means Dance from the Hoppe Indians. Tiva's nickname is Tiva the Diva!!
Tiva earned her Canine Good Citizen title on August 28 and then earned her Natural Ability title through NAVHDA on August 29, 2010. She scored a Prize 1 total points of 107! Check out more information on the "Brags" page.

Finger licking good!
Tiva is becoming a very strong water retriever. Look at this splash! Great enthusiasm!
(June 25) Tiva going out for the retrieve.
(Above) My parents with Tiva. Part of training a good gun dog is socilization. In this photo we had taken a walk in my hometown's county park.
The photos (above & below) were taken on 6/20/10 at Tim Clark's Training Seminar hosted by the Hickory Run NAVHDA chapter.
Tiva jumped right in and swam with the experienced dogs like a pro!

(above) On a very warm Memorial Day, Tiva tracked and pointed her first hen pheasant.
Wow! What a difference from last week's water training! (5/23/10)

Above at 13 1/2 weeks old was Tiva's first introduction to the water. (April 15) I had her to the creek for just a few minutes. Puppy training should be done in short happy sessions! She's learning to retrieve and she's really getting the 'whoa' command down pretty well.
Tiva's first bird! April 12, 2010 (13 weeks old)
Above at 10 1/2 weeks old. (March 25)
This is Tiva's favorite spot on the couch.
Photo above Tiva is learning to whoa to the pheasant wing. I then pick up the wing and toss it and tell her fetch.
If she wants to go off with the wing I can reel her in with the check cord. Check back weekly for more photos while she's being trained for NAVHDA!

In 2008, Higgins earned the “German Shorthair Pointer Club of Americas Hunt Test Sire of the Year.” His offspring gained attention from brace mates and judges both at the highest levels of testing and trialing, as well as from those who followed them in the wild bird fields from across the country. He produced titles such as Versatile Champions, Master/Senior/Junior Hunters, Field and Amateur Field Champions. But equally as important, Higgins produced family hunting companions and proved to us that your hunting companion can live with his or her family inside the home. Higgins made this breed better and will continue to through his offspring! Higgins is retired and has earned a spot on the couch for good!
