Gun Dog Training
Making a good gun dog begins with basic obedience. Once your dog has the basics we then move into the field introducing gunshot and working with Quail and/or Pigeons.  Training is generally done on designated dog training areas.
We offer private field lessons at $40. per hour.  Our basic program is listed below.
Program
    * Basic Obedience
    * The whoa command
    * Introduction to Field
    * Quartering and Whistle Commands
    * Introduction to Birds and Gun Fire
    * Retrieving to hand
    * Working within Gun Range
    * Steadiness before Retrieve
    * Steady to Wing and Shot
    * Duck searches and Water Retrieving (if the dog is ready)

With any dog you need to start with obedience.  If you can begin that at home before bringing the pup to us we will be that much ahead of the game. Otherwise, we will begin working with your dog on obedience training before we can head into the field on bird work.  Pups should be started with basic obedience: whoa, come and heel. We do not recommend the sit command to pointers. After introducing the pup to the field we begin whistle commands, quartering, introduction to the starter's pistol simultaneously with intro to birds.  All training is customized to your puppy and what he or she is ready for.  We take small steps in training so that you end up with a reliable dog.

GUN DOG TRAINING CAN BE CUSTOMIZED TO FIT YOUR HUNTING STYLE!
